Awarded most popular Lagoon model ever built , the Lagoon 380 offers very good sea-going capabilities as well as generous accommodations, a large and functional cockpit and a sturdy, compact build that will withstand the test of time, is easy to maintain, and will fit in most cradle or travel lifts where much larger catamarans may need to travel far and wide to find somewhere to get their boat out of the water when needed.
'El Caracol' is as cute as a button and ready for you to just move on board and start your own adventures. She was never chartered and has only had two owners: a Swiss couple who shipped her to the Caribbean to enjoy 6 months each year, and hew current family, who left their home in Portugal to purchase her and enjoyed 4.5 years cruising with their three children, zig-zagging around most of the Caribbean and the Pacific until reaching Fiji in June 2019. Their longest passage was a non-stop trip from Panama to Tahiti which took 29 days at sea and went a long way to prove to them how suitable this design was for long range cruising even with a family of 5 one board.
A mechanical engineer, her captain has been religiously maintaining the engines, which were serviced on the dot each year, as well as the sail drives, which had new seals replaced each time, whether they were needed or not.
The boat was fully surveyed by an independent IMS registered surveyor who flew to Fiji for this purpose (as there are no resident survivor here) so that a full bill of health would be done before listing the boat in case something needed attention right away. The rig was also checked at that time.
Most of the family left to return to Portugal a few weeks ago, after which the owner and one of sons remained to give the boat a throughout clean and make-over in preparation for her new owners.
‘El Caracol’ is simply stunning, with all the usual suspects, such as rudder bearings, skin fittings, rigging, sail drives and motors taken care of. Her sails are original but clean and in good condition. One can tell at first glance that this boat has always been looked after in meticulous way. One can hardly tell that she has seen so many adventures and taken care of so many people over so many miles on the ocean. She is also equipped with a full range of cruising electronics and all the safety items you need to continue cruising today.

A WORD FROM THE OWNERS:
El Caracol was bought new in 2011 by the original Swiss owners in France. She was then shipped to the Caribbean in a cargo ship (proof of this in boat documents). From 2011 until 2015 she was sailed 6 months a year, during hurricane season she was in a mooring in Grenada while her owners enjoyed the summer in Europe.
We bought her in March 2015 (second owners) and sailed El Caracol through almost all of the Caribbean and the Bahamas. In 2016 we sailed to Panama and cruised both the Atlantic and Pacific sides. In April 2017 we crossed from Panama directly to French Polynesia (no Galapagos break for us), 29 days at sea without any major malfunction. This was El Caracol first and only long crossing so far. We stayed in French Polynesia for 18 months and in September 2018 we sailed to Fiji. For hurricane season we moved to the Marshall Islands, with stops in Tuvalu and Kiribati. In April 2019 we crossed back to Fiji.
We were lucky enough to have had a sponsorship during the first 3 years we were cruising, and this is why if you check our Facebook/Instagram you will see beautiful vinyl stickers decorating her hull. Currently she is as white and shiny as the day she left La Rochelle.
We are a family of 5 and El Caracol was perfect for this voyage. It’s incredible the available living room packed in 38ft. You get great live aboard arrangements with affordable cruising/maintenance costs. It has been an amazing 4,5 years but kids grow and we miss our family and friends. We feel it’s time for the handover of this wonderful boat to another family.
