Lagoon 500 FIREFLY: A WORD FROM THE OWNER

"Looking for the adventure of a lifetime and the boat to have it on! Look no futher. This Lagoon 500 has taken our family across thousands of miles of blue water ocean and back again, and now it is time to pass it on to someone else.

Firefly has been well loved, and cared for throughout her many miles, with many decades of good life ahead of her.

We priced Firefly as low as we could, in order to give another family the incredible opportunity afforded by this capable Bluewater cruising boat. She comes fully equipped with not only all the safety equipment, tools and spares you could need, but a whole host of toys, like standup paddle boards, tubes, battles mats, and more to make your time at sea unforgettable.

If your looking for a well loved boat, that is turnkey ready to go, this is the one! She is in excellent mechanical condition, and had brand new upholstery inside. There are wind and fly screens for the entire back cockpit, as well as a fully enclosed helm station above.

Firefly has two well maintained Yanmar 75 HP engines that are happy pushing her along at 8 knots, and sails that are only a couple years old, for worry free silent propulsion. The rigging was all replaced or serviced during a major overhauls in 2020, and has many years of service ahead of it. The seals in the SD-50 Sail drives were replaced a year ago, and should also provide worry free operation.

The three downsides to Firefly, are worn flooring, it is in great mechanical shape but shows its age, crazing on the sugar scoops gel coat, and the dinghy has seen better days, though again, mechanically it is in excellent condition.

Speaking of the dingy it is a Yamaha 40HP, that can plane fully loaded with 6 people, tow a knee board, or just get you to and from shore. It isn’t as pretty as it once was, but run excellent, and has been an absolute workhorse.

Bottom paint is less than a year old, and was applied professionally in Bay of Islands New Zealand.

The original owner had the boat in Tahiti until 2018 when it was Purchased by a certified captain, who brought it through an extensive refit after sailing it to New Zealand in 2018-19 with his family. He used it to travel through much of the pacific, and then down the southern island of New Zealand.

We purchased it in Oct 2022 and sailed her up to Vanuatu, Across to Australia, up and down the east coast, and then to New Caledonia, and then Vanuatu again, where she is currently. She has been in bluewater use extensively for the past 6 years. Before that she was owned by a french man in Tahiti who used her personally.

There are spares plenty, and she is setup for immediate sailing on the next adventure.

Firefly is registered in San Marino, Bluewater Registration. De registration in less than 5 days so it is easy for a new owner. No liens, or insurance claims etc. We had gel coat repairs done on the port hull after scraping a pylon, but as it was minor damage, we never had it go through insurance. Nothing structural. Work was completed by Rivergate Marina in Brisbane.

We planned on sailing for a couple years as a family, but my wife gets really bad motion sickness. And despite me and the boys being fine, it is only a family adventure if the whole family can enjoy it. So were selling. Im a bit sad, but okay with it. New adventures will come."

The Lagoon 500 Firefly is a serious  offshore cruising vessel, designed and built for unlimited offshore adventures and independent, luxurious life on board for months at a time. The space is simply huge, as is the storage capacity for a large family, or group of friends who can easily make this boat a veritable home. This Owner's version is also Ideally suited to a skippered charter venture as well, should you wish to tap into the inexhaustible demand for this market anywhere in the world.

The layout is uncommon for a 50' catamaran, and very much based on Superyachts, with its entirely separate owners' stateroom, which mimics what you would expect size-wise on the Lagoon 440 owner's hull, with separate staircase access, giant island berth, lounge area with a big couch, walking wardrobe and extra large ensuite with seperate shower.

Forward to starboard is another dedicated staircase to what can be the crew stateroom, or very private guest stateroom, with a large double cabin and ensuite head / shower area with a screen door to separate it from the main bathroom area.

Port side is another companionway with long hallway, which on Firefly ideally house the laundry (washing machine and separate dryer), big cupboards, and a door at each end for the two guest staterooms, both with abundant storage, queen size bed, large windows and opening portholes / deck hatches, and in the aft cabin a drop-down deck / study area.

Firefly has a completely separate helm station from the aft cockpit, which leaves your family or guests undisturbed when sailing. The large U shape settee can easily sit 10 or 12 people. There is plenty of dedicated storage all around, and a very convenient wet bar with large sink, perfect for preparing drinks, or to clean up the fish you just caught.

On the aft deck, which runs the whole length of the aft cockpit, there is a brand new stainless steel BBQ mounted on the rail, perfectly positioned to keep drips from falling on the gelcoat.

Going up a few easily accessed steps is the very large flybridge / helm station, with good visibility all around and a great view of the sails. The helm seat can sit an entire family. The helm bring every ropes control back to within easy reach of the helmsman, with a foot operated electric winch to handle all your sheets. The large plotter and all the instruments, as well as the radio and engine controls are all located there.

Forward is the giant deck and trampoline, with huge deck storage on either side of the anchor well. The windlass was recently replaced with a powerful Maxwell 1500 watts.

Going inside the large saloon is level with the U shape galley, functional and equipped for commercial catering if desired, with a full size 4 burners stove, oven / broiler, 3 sinks (one for drying), and a fridge / freezer. There is abundant storage all around the salon and galley, with additional under-floor storage as well, perfect for cans or bottles.

Going down the port side companionway is a recently installed 9kg Robinhood washing machine and separate dryer. Both running off the shorepwoer (220/240V), or the generator (11Kva Onan), which works perfectly and was just serviced again.

A large stainless steel and separate freezer are also installed in this hallway, ideally located close to the galley.

Next to the salon is a large navigation area, complete with large size repeaters, autopilot repeater for control and navigation from inside the boat, as well as the radio, sat phone, ect. This Lagoon 500 is equipped with Starlink, which the owner can transfer to a new owner and include in the sale if desired.

Firefly (just re-named from Chaos), was the home on the ocean of 3 consecutive families, who brought her first from France to Tahiti, then to NZ, and eventually back again around the Western South Pacific to Australia and Vanuatu, where she is now located and is very well taken care off by the owner's nephew, (who helped us put together the video walk-through).

Firefly has kept everyone safe and comfortable across thousands of ocean miles, and is ready to go again. She was surveyed in September 2022 by Stanley Lehman in NZ. The report is available. With a little cosmetic work to her gelcoat (sugarscoop areas mainly), some of the interior timber trimmings and the flooring the salon are showing some wear and tear. The owner has otherwise kept the boat mechanically and in all other aspects in excellent condition, and with a very recent rigging, sails, and all her mechanical heartbeat maintained religiously, she is ready to be delivered to you, or to just step board and continue your journey.

Lastly, Firefly comes turnkey and with an enviable inventory, including an astonishing supply of tools and spares, reliable dinghy, safety equipment and water toys.
