"North Star" is the popular center cockpit version of Bob Perry's best sailing design, the Tayana 52. She has benefited from many exceptional upgrades and is the cleanest Tayana 52 available today.

"North Star" has a new Selden mast ('07), Pro Furl in-boom furling ('07), new sails (2015, hardly used as they were kept in bags from late 2019 to mid 2022), new standing rigging (2019) Garmin Chartplotters, radar, AIS network system (2014) and many other upgrades making her the best equipped version of this design.

This boat has been cared for by just two owners for the past 30+ years and should been seen by anyone serious about purchasing a fine cruising yacht.

When the current owners began worldwide cruising, the modifications made and ongoing high standard of maintenance was continued. North Star is one of the best equipped blue-water ocean crossing vessels in her class.

Robert Perry designed the Tayana 52 to be a fast, strong, safe, passage maker. He allowed for an excellent interior layout that includes three generous cabins, a large salon and a very sea-kindly u-shaped galley. The hull design is well recognized as one of the top cruising performance hulls to ever be built. This design has had great success as a coastal or world cruiser and has beautiful lines that rival any design of this era.

The two owners of "North Star" have spared no expense on upgrades over their past thirty years of ownership. Everything from interior improvements like the new Corian countertops, to the new Selden mast, custom fiberglass hardtop, rigging, sails and Pro Furl in-boom furling system with full-batten mainsail have been provided. She has never been chartered. "North Star" has benefited from constant professional care during this extended ownership period and the next owner of this exceptional vessel will find her ready to sail anywhere.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

"North Star" has a very flexible, redundant and robust electrical system. She is wired with a 120 volt system that can be powered by the 8-kW Westerbeke generator or the twin-30 amp shore power cords. She has a new Mastervolt 200 amps/4000 watt (2019) charger/inverter plus another Mastervolt 50-amp charger (2014) that charges the 4 Victron AGM deep cycle battery banks (7/2022) deep cycle 1,280 amp-hour house batteries and the engine and generator start batteries(7/2022). Dual shore 110-volt selector switches, dual battery selector switches, automatic battery combiners, and start battery emergency cross connect switch provide numerous options and backups for electrical supply. North Star also has a 240 volt to 120 volt 5KVA isolation transformer (2014) allowing her to work with any AC voltage source you may encounter in your travels.

The large capacity battery supply ensures that batteries are not heavily exercised, and their life typically exceeds 10 years. Battery minders monitors the condition and usage of batteries, and control their charging.

The house batteries run the entire twelve volt system which includes all navigation instrumentation, lights, 12 volt outlets, bilge pumps, water pumps and heads. These batteries can also be inverted to run the AC appliances.

Like all Tayanas, "North Star's" wiring is exceptional. Both 110 volt and the 12 volt system are on the same board outboard of the navigation station, and a second inboard panel is provided next to the nav station. The panels are wired with tinned, color coded wires. There are also 2 battery switches to select individual or combinations of house batteries, all independent from the engine start and generator batteries.

The generator end of the Westerbeke generator unit was replaced in 2005 and has very low hours. The generator unit can power all of the AC units, battery chargers, and refrigeration with ease.

HULL & DECK

Tayana is well known for building hulls that are strong. The Tavana 52 was designed as a moderate displacement hull, with airex foam coring from the keel to the gunwales, and end grain embedded balsa coring in the cabin house. So her hull weight is low compared to most cruisers, allowing her to sail upright and be easily driven. Custom hardtop on stainless steel frame, with safety handles, rain catchment system and solar panels (2014). Extra high 33" stanchions with the dyneema lifelines (2019) forward of the side gates, custom stainless steel hand rails on the coachtop and around entire aft pushpit up to the side gates provide amazing security on deck when outside the cockpit, teak toe rails, new hull and coachtop Awlgrip paint in 2012, deck hardware that was completely re-bedded in 2012.  She has heavy duty custom 2-1/4" diameter stainless steel davits. Her bottom was repainted last in July 2022 and is in excellent condition. She is equipped with a six person life raft on deck that is certified through 2023.

RIGGING & WINCHES

The new Selden mast, Pro Furl boom and UK (Ulmer Kolius) main have added tremendous performance to an already exceptional sailing vessel. These additions will be appreciated by anyone sailing "North Star" as they make her easier and safer to handle while adding performance. In 20190 all of the standing rigging was replaced. "North Star" is cutter rigged which adds to her versatility under sail.

There are (7) winches in the cockpit and (1) at the mast. The main halyard winch located in the cockpit is electric. The electric main halyard winch makes the Pro Furl system even easier to use and makes short work of reefing.
