Hallberg-Rassy 53

Hallberg-Rassy 53

Few cruising boats around the world evoke such all-around perfection as the Hallberg-Rassy, which faithfulness to their unbeatable quality of build and the extraordinary minds of the design team behind its time-enduring lines and rich interior has never compromised with time.

As beautiful as she was the day she as launched, ‘Xanamar’ has always been cherished and maintained with the very best of care and knowledge by her owner, an immensely experienced ocean voyager, who equipped his yacht with long-term live-aboard and comfort in mind. This boat has an impressive range of recently installed, top of the range equipment, from fully comprehensive cruising electronics, to water-maker, generator, solar panels, davits, watermaker, washing machine, reverse-cycle ducted air-conditioning etc.

‘Xanamar’s’ engine is an immaculately maintained 145HP Volvo, easily accessed in the spectacularly tidy engine-room.

Certainly a very powerful boat, this Hallberg-Rassy HR53 is also very easily sailed by one or two people, with hydraulic furling Genoa, Electric winches, and all lines grouped in the comfortable and safe cockpit. Unlike many centre-cockpits, where ocean-passages safety compromises poorly over the much-needed space for relaxing and entertaining when at anchor, the HR 53 cockpit is generously proportioned and fitted with a proper cockpit table, comfortable cushions, and is well protected from the sun or rain with the trademark, beautifully designed hard-top and proper reinforced-glass windscreen.

A wide companionway and short flight or well-shaped steps lead to a magnificent interior which is beautifully preserved. The layout chosen for ‘Xanamar’ is the aft-stateroom model, which is a veritable palace, and another stateroom forward. Each has its own walk-in ensuite with generously sized head and shower. A third cabin is fitted with a full size bunk.

The saloon, spreading across the whole width of the main cabin, is exquisitely furnished with a large dinette on one side and two settees opposite curving around a small table.

There is an abundance of storage throughout the boat, as befits a proper cruising, live-aboard vessels which is often lacking in this department.

To quote Germán Frers: "The Hallberg-Rassy 53 is designed with the cruising connoisseur very much in mind. She follows closely the tradition and philosophy behind my earlier Hallberg-Rassy designs. The hull shape was developed following the significant lessons learned from the intense research program carried out by our design office for the America's Cup. Racing they say improves the breed. This is certainly the case with the 53 which, though not designed with competition in mind, benefits, particularly when sailing upwind from testing we carried out on keel and rudder shapes. Her moderate displacement is in line with the yacht's strong construction and high level of equipment carried on board. Sail area too is generous, and coupled with the excellent stability gained from the 53´s special bulb keel, performs well, even in light winds. The overhangs are rather generous for her type and contribute to give the yacht an aspect of graceful elegance which will be maintained regardless of the passage of time."

Hallberg-Rassy provided descrption: Flagship of the Hallberg-Rassy range, this magnificient yacht combines modern styling and a performance hull but still retains that timeless elegance that is the hallmark of the range, while down below it provides the space and comfort of a luxury floating home. The interior is finished in glowing rich red mahogany, again a Hallberg-Rassy trademark, one of which they are justly proud. Satin finished, smooth, rounded, warm to the touch and soothing to the eye, the interiors of these boats are superb. The layout is designed to allow unimpeded access from bow to stern, in a smooth line with no obstructions. The saloon table has superbly radiussed fiddles that fades away in the corners. The engine room is a full-height, walk-in compartment, with ample room to work around the six-cylinder engine. Also in here is the generator, water-maker, and easy access to all systems. Perforated aluminium linings cover the sound insulation, adding to the high-quality feel of the installation. Hull and deck are GRP, built under supervision of Lloyd's Register of Shipping. A Lloyd's certificate is supplied with each boat. The hull is constructed according to the hand lay-up method with woven rovings and isophthalic polyester and NGA-gelcoat. The hull is insulated from the water line up. Deck is ivory white GRP-sandwich construction, 35mm thick for strength and insulation.
